Introduction:
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi
inaugurated ‘Digital India’ with the launch
of 'Digital India Week' campaign in the
national capital, with a view to sensitize
people of our country through the Digital
India Programme. Digital India is an
Umbrella Programme covering many
departments. It weaves together a large
number of ideas and thoughts into a single,
comprehensive vision so that each of them is
seen as part of a larger goal.
Being a proponent of technology and
digitization, SNDT WU is diligent about the
digital literacy and digital empowerment of
present and future students. In pursuance of
this, the University has created a road map
for the digital empowerment of its
stakeholders and has completed the
following:
- Connecting its three campuses viz. Churchgate, Juhu and Pune through a virtual tunnel.
- Creating WiFi connectivity on its
three campuses - in progress
- Intranet Portal using a platform -
‘Susmavad’ - for communication across
all the three campuses.
Several student centric applications are
being developed and deployed on all three
campuses.
The Contest:
Digital India Initiative is a great enabler
for empowerment, equity and efficiency.
Through this initiative Government is
focusing on connecting villages through
broadband; participative governance; digital
learning; tele-medicine and mobile
healthcare etc. In support to this noble
initiative, SNDTWU is also
organizing a ‘Innovative ideas for Digital
India’ contest to provide the young thinking
minds of SNDT a prodigious opportunity to
portray their ideas for benefit of
rural India.
Students can communicate innovative ideas by
writing a paper. In presenting your new
ideas with a paper, aim should be to provide
solutions to the problems faced by rural
India.
The competitions intends to foster student’s
savoir and ingenuity and reward young
professionals whose contributions and
technological ideas will definitely have a
positive impact on society in the near
future.
Rules and Guidelines of the “Innovative ideas for Digital India” Competition:
- Structure:
- The Competition is divided into
Senior and Junior divisions (under
graduate, postgraduate).
Senior division
includes participants registered for
Masters/Post Graduate programmes. and
Junior Division includes participants
registered for any kind of undergraduate
programme.
- Participants must submit a SELF
ATTESTED copy of their student
Identity-Card along-with the
papers.
- The papers should be submitted or
are to be delivered to University within
the given timeline on
innovations@di.sndt.ac.in
- Participants are provided with the
theme “Innovative ideas for Digital
India”. With the theme,
any innovative
idea which can help rural India can be
presented in form of paper.
- Topics:
- Theme: “Innovative ideas
for Digital India”
Any new idea which can help the
development of rural India is
accepted.
- Procedures for the participation :
- The contest will be announced at
University department /institutes /
affiliated colleges. Five
best
entries (from UG and PG categories
separately) from Juhu, Churchgate
and Pune Campus
and five best
entries from Affiliated Colleges
will be selected for the final round
to be conducted
on 13th August 2015
at Juhu Campus
- Interested participants shall
register with the respective
college/department authority.
- Colleges and Departments will
conduct elimination round and send
two winning papers to the
University
for Intercollegiate Competition.

- Only original ideas written in
English (in prescribed format) will
be considered for the
competition.
Any form of plagiarism will result
in disqualification of the paper.
- Certificate/undertaking: The
students have to sign a undertaking,
that the work is original and
is the
opinion/views of the author and is
not copied from any source and is
personally liable for
any copyright/
IPR related issues. The undertaking
duly signed shall be sent along with
the
paper.
- Innovative idea Paper Competition Requirement:
- Paper should be in standard IEEE
Format (Template in doc and Latex
format is attached herewith. These
templates can also be downloaded
from IEEE website.
- To download the template

- Students may work individually
or in a team.
- The Paper should be not more
than 6 pages. Participants can
include images required for the
explanation in the paper.
- The theme "Digital India” and
development of rural India should be
the main focus of the paper.
- Criteria For Assessment for the Paper:
- The approach and
practicality of the idea: (40%)
- Architecture required for
the future implementation: (30
%)
- How satisfactory is the idea
for the problem: (30%)

The Final day: Saturday, August
15, 2015
The students winning the awards during the
celebrations of Digital India
Campaign will be felicitated on
Independence Day at the hands of
the Chief Guest.
